A Young City
It would be a mistake to assume that Tel Aviv has a younger population that Rishon. Rishon's population is the third youngest among Israeli cities, just after Jerusalem and Bnei Brak.
31.1% of the citiy's population consists of children and teenagers and 61.4% are youngsters and adults up to 40 years of age, while only about 7% are senior citizens aged more then 70.
Veterans and Immigrants
65% of Rishon's residents were born in Israel; 24% came from Europe and America, 6% from Asia and 55 From Africa. Since 1990 - 38,000 immigrants have joined us mostly from the former Soviet Union. Today they make up 17.5% of Rishon's population.
A Growing City
At 2004, Rishon LeZion's population climbed to some 230,000 residents. Between 1948 and the mid 1970's the city's population grew by 50% every ten years. Since the beginning of the 1980's - 72,000 people have come to live in Rishon LeZion. The city's population has been increasing by about 5% every year since the early 1990's.
